EFACS client Modec is the world’s first manufacturer of purpose built zero emission vehicles. Heralded as the future of commercial transport, the British manufacturer was founded in 2004 by a team of automotive engineering experts and its vehicles were launched to the transport industry in March 2007. Their challenge was managing a complex and highly variable series of business processes in order to deliver the right vehicle to the right customer at the right time. Modec saw the need for an ERP system like EFACS that could grow with them and be flexible enough to adapt to a rapidly evolving business environment.
EFACS understands that running throughout Modec is the importance placed on accuracy and consistency of data at every stage of the business. For Modec this is one of the core requirements for success, from being able to accurately specify and record orders, to purchasing the right components in the right quantities in the right time frames, to having visibility of which order is where in the production process, to reviewing performance of vehicles in service. To begin with only finance and engineering data was stored in the company’s EFACS ERP system. The reason why EFACS had not been expanded into the other areas of the company as there was a prevailing view at the time that because Modec was focussing on Lean manufacturing, and they felt that there was no need for any of the MRP and related functionality to be used.
Soon the client understood the power of EFACS and began to develop the production capabilities with EFACS in order to move towards an integrated production strategy. They could see the advantages of using EFACS, especially for keeping on top of their processes as they develop and evolve as our understanding of the market grows.
EFACS now holds all the joined up information within the company, which means that whenever one element is changed, the whole system can be updated and EFACS delivers time savings of five days on vehicle lead times.
