Forecasting can make a recession great for your business

forecasting for recesssionWe have just released a whitepaper on Tips to recession-proof your business for the UK market.  There is now doubt that during a recession some businesses actually succeed and start growing.  So how do you make your business one of those that can actually beat the recession?

Build Relationships with Customers and Suppliers, to be honest this should happen regardless but during a recession it is especially important.   The facts stays the same, regardless of the current economic stability, your business is reliant on your suppliers and customers.   Is it true to stay that when their businesses are suffering chances are that your business will also feel the impact.  There is no point in hiding your head in the sand that fact is that if customer’s sales go down so do yours, there has to be a knock on effect.  The flip side also is that if a supplier has to raise their prices, then your cost will also increase.

Look to form healthy relationships with your suppliers and customers before hand and avoid any fire fighting.  Be honest and straightforward with them first.  Explain to them that you understand the current economic conditions and value their business.  And by building relationships with your suppliers and customers will create a mutual respect, which we help in the long run.

Naturally we can’t avoid the most important part which is to plan for the recession.  And for most businesses, there aren't a lot of silver linings in economic downturns, except this maybe this one: If you are prepared, your company stands a better chance of gaining ground on the competition during a downturn than when times are good. Preparing for the bad times is a strategic imperative, especially for the finance organization -- and preparation takes planning, not just budgeting.

Be prepared for recession. Take advantage of the opportunity you have right now to cut unnecessary costs, to build relationships with customers and suppliers, and to know your employees.
