Sales Forecasting for Effective Business Management
Sales forecasting and business management go hand in hand regardless of the size of your business or the level of uncertainty we face.
Sales forecasts are vital in helping business managers make informed decisions, especially for new businesses.
Sales Forecasting and Business Planning
Sales forecasting should be a key element when developing and establishing your business plan. Along with other elements such as cash flow and revenue projects,
sales forecasting is essential in guiding your business plan to success. Your
sales forecasts should take into account several things including what your competitors are doing and charging, what are your customers buying and how your pricing will generate revenue for your business. Be careful not to overvalue your
sales forecast, it can lead to tighter budgets when sales do not meet your predictions.
Sales Forecasting and Expenditure
Including all your expenses in your
sales forecast is hugely important. This even includes incorporating your bad business debts into your
sales forecast. Seasonal expenses should also be included – some businesses may buy their Christmas supplies in the summer but will not receive the receipt for such purposes until December. Make sure you have the money to pay these types of expenses ahead of time.
Sales Forecasting – Include Several Sales Figures
When establishing your
sales forecast try and use several sales figures. The reason for this is most businesses will have different sales figures for each month. If you are a greeting card company will may find your sales figures spike during particular seasons such as Christmas. Be sure to balance your sales figures to match off peak times and promotions you may be running that will account for an increase in revenue.
By bringing your business capital and your cash flow situation under control, you can make better
sales forecasts for the future. Good business decisions all come down to having solid information to work off. You will be able to watch your company grow and produce revenue as a direct result of your hard efforts of making a proper
sales forecast.
