Tableau Sets Standards amongst Business Intelligence Platforms
Gartner Magic Quadrant the only menu for BI solutions
The Gartner Magic Quadrant report for 2011 was published this month and it rated Tableau once again as the IT software to watch in the upcoming year by placing it in the ‘Challenger’ quadrant. This extensive report reviews Business Intelligence (BI) platforms globally by collecting information from customer surveys, interviews and analysis.
Tableau once again leading the pack
Vendor products are then rated in terms of their ability to execute functions and their completeness of vision. The results are categorized under the headings: Leaders, Challengers, Niche Players and Visionaries. The report has become so influential in the industry that some companies will not buy from an IT vendor unless they appear on the Gartner quadrant, so Tableau’s consistent appearance there speaks for itself.
Gartner knows what businesses want and need from business intelligence
Gartner set out the various criteria that IT buyers are highlighted as most important in 2010. Top of the list are business user’s need for ease of use and flexibility. What Gartner discovered is that it is in fact business users as opposed to IT department that are the decision makers when it comes to IT purchases and that the often disregard IT department recommendations opting instead for software that offers ease of use.
Tableau delivers
In many cases, the ‘ease of use’ criteria goes directly against the needs of IT who want software that meets their standard for control. But as with many markets, in the BI platforms market, it is the users who ultimately set the standard for manufacturers and it this case, it is clear that Tableau delivers on those standards and more.
