TABLEAU VERSUS QLIKVIEW. BATTLE FOR BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE MARKET

Tableau versus Qlikview.

Business Intelligence on business intelligence software particularly Tableau Software from the American north west and Qlikview fron Swenden. Two very popular choices for BI in large organisations.

In recent times Tableau has been rising fast doubling Sales last year 2010 and probably moutning the most serious assualt on Qlikview and IBM Cognos and Oracle. Download Tableau Trial.

We thought we would conduct a quick review of the differences between Qlikview and TABLEAU bearing in mind MXI is a Tableau Vendor.

The Differences

First Difference – Go to the respective websites and try to get information on the product both feature trial version available for download. In overall terms Tableau wins by a mile, their website is model for how to do it in terms presenting a company, its products and supporting collateral and with appetising details. Tableau visuals, demonstration sets, technical tutorials are clearly better.

Second Difference – Connecting to data – Tableau wins here as well as you can connect straight to the data, Excel, Oracle, SQL, Access, flat files whatever immediately. With the exception of Excel for which Qlikview wrote an little app there is at least some scripting to be done in order to connect to data.

Third Difference – User Interface – Tableau again wins and in fairness they have put a lot of thought into this and a clearer interface with very few wizards in sight. Qlikview Dashboards are a treat but the overall experience is important.

Fourth Difference – Ease of use – Most internet comment awards this to Tableau, fast simple clear screens which reduce the amount of time to production of data, reports, slicing and dicing considerably. That’s what users want.

Comments

The title of this post is a tad dramatic considering the two companies have barely 5% market share combined, and even with 'doubling of sales' that won't change much.

Tableau is the best BI software I have used for both reporting (dashboards, etc) and analysis. It's so flexible and easy to use and the introduction of parameters took the reporting capabilities to a new level in my opinion. I still haven't used Qlikview although I have heard from others it's good, just not quite as good as Tableau.

I have an article your readers could also be interested in showing a v quick pro's and con's of Tableau and comparing it to the other common reporting tools, Xcelsius and SSRS. Tableau Pros and Cons

Tableau is a very nice visualization tool that works seamlessly when source data is held in a structured format (warehouse). In reality it competes directly with visualizations tools such Dundas not QlikView.

In contrast, QlikView is a powerful, agile platform that has rewritten the rules in how BI is delivered across an organization.

Didnt Jesus use Tableau? And aparently Tableau ended WW2, cured cancer and was responsible for the creation of the universe. Yes, this blog is a little silly as MXI are a Tableau reseller, and the highly favour Tableau over their competition. No surprise there!
