Business Intelligence or Data Visualisation. New kid on the block?

data visualization, the next step in business intelligenceBusiness Intelligence / Data visualisation, Is there a difference?

In the US they spell it data visualization but thats just because they insist on deliberately mis spelling it. Yet there is a serious point. Business Intelligence is a little different in style and intent to data visualisation and its worth defining that.

Data visualisation recognises the huge changes around us in terms of media, mobile phones, the way we consume data and see things. A TV in every room, large screens everywhere, internet, less newspaper reading, more browsing. Data visualisation enables people to create data in the same well as they like to consume it. Quickly, graphically in a way designed to productively consumed. A pictures paints a thousand words.

Business Intelligence is evolving

Business Intelligence is the concept of using reporting software to create reports. Reporting statistics, trends, facts from information all over an organisation. With most organisations now having 40 or50 years of data on their system clearly business intelligence is necessity otherwise the data is useless and business negligent. BI has become part of the corporate eco system, a vital cog. FREE Business Intelligence download

We think that rapid fire data analytics, data visualisation is simply the next step in the development of the Business Intelligence Industry. Firstly make it "really easy" to create to connect to the data, then make it attractive and graphically oriented for the business analyst and Manager.

So perhaps the real difference is just a subtle improvement. Judge for your yourself.
