Pearson Cuts Its Reporting Time With Some Business Intelligence Magic
A worldwide leader in education, Pearson uses Tableau BI to track whether they are meeting or exceeding industry standards. Business intelligence has been an effective means of data analysis. Doing E-Learning classes for critical subjects such as data security and plant safety, they can’t risk gray areas – they needed a way to analyze results to make sure students were meeting expectations. On a recommendation, Martin Keiser and the human resources department tried Tableau Server. Now they can track training metrics with speed and heretofore unforeseen accuracy.
Tableau Business Intelligence: Easy Results
Pearson is the world’s largest publisher of educational materials. From K-12, University-level materials and professional markets, they print textbooks, workbooks and any other type of educational materials. One way Pearson uses Tableau business intelligence is to monitor whether employees have taken mandatory training courses.
Keiser said that using Tableau has been very easy. From the outset, he was impressed with its simple usage and powerful processing of complex data. Before Tableau business intelligence, reports used Access and distributed Excel tables. It wasn’t the most visually appealing way to distribute data. However, after Tableau business intelligence, the improvement was marked. Pearson quickly had insight into educational trends such as online courses and for the workplace, industry training experience. Keiser said, “It’s very easy to create reports.”
Now, with Tableau business intelligence, report generation and distribution is nearly instantaneous. It’s cut down Pearson’s time about 25 percent. One of the reasons Keiser opted for Tableau business intelligence is the speed and ease of use. They use Tableau server with a MySQL database. HR uses Tableau server to manipulate data quickly, efficiently and accurately. About a dozen or so HR managers use it to filter data down, making sure that all employees are well-trained.
