Business Intelligence Dashboards bogging you down?

If BI is Bogging you down it's not working

“Companies are being overwhelmed by data,” says Hugh Meagher Technical Practice Lead at MXI . “They have to be ruthless in sorting out what information  their organisation  needs. At  this point they can realise their strategy and  make decisions.Decision based on proper data analytics, forensic interrogation of  the data producing clean clear reports.
See Example of Clear Reports

What Business Intelligence and IT learnt from Cars & TV.

Hugh continues “Organisations have information overload. ERP systems such those from SAGE produce loads of data every day”. As a Sage expert of 20 years standing I help organisations produce that data and its huge challenge to collate it effectively. That’s where “dashboards” come in. And the reference to Cars is deliberate. See More Reports

Dashboards show top-level information in graphic form – just like the dashboard of a car or a Sports Screen showing the score  – Drill down gets to the heart of the informationl. For example, if a production unit makes 1000 fruit cans an hour, how many failed the tolerance test every hour, what was the material cost, what delays occurred, and how much did I make. Or which surgeon in the Eastern Region performs the most procedure in the afternoon.

It's just easier to decide when the report is clear

Business Intelligence usually replaces the Excel tabular report with a few basic charts. BI tools such Tableau Software specialises in rapid analytics and clean clear dashboards intentionally designed to be easy to use and easy on the eye.

Hugh warns against overusing these and keeping the original task which to be compelling and pro actively encouraging decision amking. be ruthless to be clear. Make your point. Don’t analyise the past to death, use the data to make decisions to create improvement in the future. As Deloitte, CIO Peers says” People spend too much time poring over last week’s sales, rather than getting a model for next week’s.”
