Some independent determinations reckon Excel is in use on nearly a billion computers around the world. Most of them probably illegally copied. Seattle’s Banks might have tipped over into the sea if everyone actually paid. Regardless of which Microsoft continues to invest in Excel development as it heads towards its 25th birthday.

And Power Pivot, Excels fast scalable in memory analytic engine that analyses millions of rows of data at supersonic speed which all integrate to Share Point. Excel is a cash cow and its authors will continue to ensure the spreadsheet continues to spout cash.

The main thing missing is Excel automation sending automatic deliveries to distribution lists but then they could never sell other high priced Business intelligence software in their range. So automatic report delivery won’t be included anytime soon however there are downloadable applications which have been spotted on the internet.

So despite the efforts of IBM Cognos, QlikTech, Oracle, SAP, the virtually free Excel will not be relinquishing its king of business intelligence title any time soon.
