The in memory products, such as Qlikview and Tableau have an advantage here giving blistering performance. Though Qlikview requires that all data is loaded into memory and requires that the data be cut until it fits your memory limitations, this is performed via scripting and may be beyond the casual or 'application' user, more of an IT or 'Super User' function. Tableau has no such limitation.
Cognos is Enterprise focussed Business intelligence

Products such as Cognos from IBM are widely used but the development cycle for dashboard production does not match that of the new products to the market place and they tend to be more rigid.
